What gets looked at in a home
- The entrance: its direction, what it opens onto and how the entry area is used day to day.
- The kitchen: where cooking and water sit relative to each other and to the directions.
- Bedrooms: especially the main bedroom, the bed position and the sleeping direction.
- Study and work corners: children’s desks and the home office.
- Toilets and bathrooms: they rarely move, so the question is how to manage the zone they sit in.
- The puja space, living room, storage and heavy furniture.
- For bungalows: the plot, gates, staircase, terraces and surroundings.

Working with a Mumbai flat as it is
In a residential tower the building has already decided where your front door, kitchen and bathrooms go. A useful consultation accepts that and asks different questions. Which bedroom should the couple use, and which suits a child preparing for exams? Can the desk turn to face another direction? Is the entrance cluttered with shoes and storage? Which corner needs a change of colour or light?

Is a south-facing flat bad according to Vastu?
Not on its own. The entrance direction is one factor among many, and plenty of south-facing homes work well. The whole layout, and how it is used, matters more.
Should I get Vastu done before moving into a new flat?
If you can, yes. Before the furniture arrives it is easy to decide which room is used for what, where the beds and desks go and where the puja space should be.
What can be done about a toilet in the wrong zone?
Toilets usually cannot be moved, so the focus is on managing that zone through how the space is used and kept, and the colours and materials around it.
Can Vastu be considered for a home I already live in?
