Vastu for flats, houses and businesses in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is squeezed between mountains and sea, so buildings climb, tilt and turn to catch views rather than follow a tidy grid. Dr. Riddhe Sshilpi offers Vastu for Rio properties entirely online, working from your plan, a bearing taken at the entrance and photographs, and giving practical suggestions for how you live in the space.

How Vastu relates a building to the directions

Vastu looks at how a building relates to the directions: where people enter, cook, sleep, study or do business, and what each room is used for. Dr. Riddhe treats it as a careful way of observing a space, and she explains her reasoning so you can judge each suggestion for yourself.

She does not promise particular outcomes. Where a layout is already comfortable she says so, and where something could be improved she begins with what can be moved, such as a bed, a desk or a cupboard, before suggesting anything involving walls or building work.

Beachfront blocks, hillside homes and Barra towers in Rio de Janeiro

Residents of Rio de Janeiro usually live in apartment buildings with a doorman and shared condominium rules, from older blocks in Copacabana and Botafogo to newer towers in Barra da Tijuca. Houses with gardens are more typical in Santa Teresa, Tijuca and parts of the Zona Oeste.

Balconies facing the beach, the bay or the hills often decide how a flat is used, so Dr. Riddhe asks for a video walkthrough as well as the plan. Condominium rules limit exterior changes, which is why she begins with interior use. A compass bearing at the front door is essential, since the road does not give a reliable guide.

Humid sea air and how rooms are arranged

Rio's warm, humid, salty air affects how rooms feel and how furniture ages. When advising on where to place a bed, a prayer corner or a workspace, Dr. Riddhe also considers ventilation, afternoon sun and damp-prone walls.
